The San Diego Unified Council of PTAs created this survey to allow families in our district to provide feedback about a newly proposed revised calendar for the 2023-24 school year. We will provide this data to the Board of Education and District, as well as post a summary on our website for parents to review.

Update as of 2/24/22: Voices have been heard by the district, which has announced that there will not be any changes to the 2022-2023 academic calendar that was approved 1/11/22. The first day of school of the 2022-23 will be August 29, 2022. Please continue to share and complete this survey about whether you are in favor of the proposed changes for future academic years, which could include a mid-August start date, three-week winter break, and an end date after the first week of June.

A proposed revised calendar is available here:

Advantages to the mid-August start date are weighted toward the high school experience.
• The fall semester would be completed by Winter Break – no studying over the break.
• District high school sports would be aligned with other schools that start mid-August.
• Students who work during the summer are not disadvantaged by getting out later than students at other schools.
• Adding an extra week to the end of the winter break may reduce the impact on student attendance of possible COVID exposures during the holidays.

Please complete this short survey by February 28, 2022, so that the San Diego Unified Council of PTAs can bring your valued feedback to the Board of Education and Calendar Committee at their next meeting. The San Diego Unified Council of PTAs has a representative on the Calendar Committee. This survey will shape our advocacy on behalf of families and students.

*This survey is for all parents, teachers, and students in San Diego Unified, not just those that are PTA members.

Please contact us if you have any questions. Thank you.
